Balance Aids Guide

Use the right support at the right time. Progress safely from firm support to light aids as your balance improves.

Types of Support

Primary Support

Countertops, sturdy railings, or a supportive chair for beginners.

Light Support

Single-point touch on wall or chair back; foam balance pad for mild challenge.

Progressive Challenge

Narrow stance, heel-to-toe, eyes-closed variants only when steady with open eyes.

Footwear

Supportive walking shoes or barefoot on grippy mat for proprioception.

How to Progress Safely

Start with two hands on support → one hand → fingertip touch → hover nearby.

Change only one variable at a time: stance width, support level, or eyes closed.

Use a clear, non-slip area; stop if you feel unstable or dizzy.
